Providing leadership in
promoting the business community in Marysville.
Enabled the start-up or expansion of
specialty retail business downtown
including the addition of more than thirteen new small retail
enterprises, the restoration of two financial organization
buildings, and helped set-up a dining restaurant, a noon-diner
and a unique coffee/deli business.
$277,500
of IWW no-interest money has been provided by
Main Street to downtown businesses for
start-up, expansion and facade improvements...
$40,000 during 2008 & $20,000 in 2009.
Marysville Market Area Strategic Plan & Action-
Carried out Marysville research study, presented
at Marysville Town Meeting, and provided Economic Enhancement
Strategy for Marysville Main Street retail district. This
marketing info is available to all members.
Provided Education & Training to merchants & owners:
"Contractors Facade Workshop," Seminar on "Marketing, Promotions
and Store Image," workshops on "Visual Merchandising," "Downtown
classic Building Design," "Ways to WOW Customers & keep them
coming back".
Published "Design Guidelines,"
for use by downtown businesses.
Architect's Preliminary Site Survey, Design Assistance and
architectural drawings provided, at
no charge, to eleven downtown businesses.
Volunteers do downtown clean up
"Sparklers" throughout summers months
and before events.
This year, 869 volunteers contributed
another 4,057. hours of service to the
Main Street area bringing the total to over 25,263 volunteer
hours toward downtown projects ($443.365 value).
Main Street representatives actively
recruit new retail, restaurant
businesses and loft residents.
Main Street provides reports to the
public and the City Council on Main Street projects, planning,
and activity. Main Street, by City ordinance, regulates
"historic downtown" signage & awnings.
Main Street has established partnership
with City and community in planning,
management and the enhancement of the Downtown Commercial
District economic development.
Installed new Welcome to Marysville,
Black Squirrel City signs, Historic Broadway wayfinding
signage and Kansas Main Street City entryway
signage.
Four annual KU-NU Showdown Festivals were successful both
financially and providing widespread promotion of Marysville
Kansas and our downtown, NBC & ABC satellite TV event
coverage, and was recipient of the Governor's Award for "Kansas
Event of the Year."
Sponsored and coordinated other successful "Promotional $$$
Events" that bring customers: Annual Big Blue Barbeque State
Championship/19th AutoFest Car Shows downtown (attendance
5,200), Dickens' on Broadway & Living Nativity (attendance
600+), Main Street Hoops Grade School Basketball Tourney
(attendance 1600+), Marysville Garden
Tour, Valentine-Big Kiss, May Basket Hunt, 2004 Sesquicentennial
Celebration, Haunted Downtown Ghost Tour, etc.
Marysville Main Street accomplishments recognized by 27
"Governor's Awards for Excellence" in 8 categories.
Marysville received the 2004 Kansas "Community Achievement
Award," in 2005 became a Kansas Emeritus City and our staff
received State Director of the Year honors.

Marysville businesses and individuals through their own private

76 Facade Renovations totaling $455,639.
146 Building Improvements totaling $2,235,441.30.
34 Building Sold totaling $2,239,000.
33 New Business Openings, creating 91.5 new full or part-time
jobs.
26 Business Closings (some sold to new owners). NET GAIN OF 7
and gain of 31 jobs
26 Upper level loft apartments renovated and occupied (mixed use
building projects)
154 Public Improvement Projects totaling $2,624,452.
22 Downtown projects received more than $277,500. Main Street $$
